When we approached the logo and website brief for La Girarde, a beautifully restored Chambres d’hôtes set in park & woodland near the vineyards of Bordeaux, we started by looking at the inherent beauty of the building and surroundings.
Looking at the elements around the building itself, initially we investigated the grand willow in front of the building and some of the architectural features.
Once the design of the shutters & limestone building surround was reached, we felt that it would benefit from a strong modern colour to fit in with the interior design of the building. Picking up the palette from the building’s neutral tones would have been one approach but we felt this route risked being a rural French cliché, which didn’t hit the brief.
We tried many typefaces in-house before presenting our proposal, looking at various, mainly French styles.
With the website, a stone colour was used to compliment the blue and the large willow tree used in the backwash. The text can be switched to French from English, so this lent itself to being built in PHP. Visit La Girarde here to see the finished website.
